  Description
Houston, the fourth biggest city of the United States is the center of the energy industry and an important international port. This culturally rich metropolis is also the seat of one of the most important and advanced medical centers of the world. Created in 1961, ELS will show you a different lifestyle and it will help you to improve your knowledge of the language and culture of the United States.

Lodging

The options include: host family houses, student’s residences and apartments. In many cases, the lodging arrangements can be done before arriving to the United States.

Academics

ELS offers two English courses: Intensive and Semi-Intensive. The Intensive Program has 30 weekly lessons and up to twelve levels - that go from beginner to advanced and "masters” levels. Before the beginning of the classes, the student takes a test to determine his level an how much he /she can speak, understand and write in English. There are also special programs, including TOEFL preparation and personalized instruction.
The Semi-Intensive English course was designed for those who want to make good use of the classes and also have free time to explore the environs and practice English outside the classroom. It has 20 weekly lessons, with emphasis on the communication skills and the practice of the everyday English, with flexible schedules for the beginning of each session and twelve learning levels, from beginners to "masters".

Activities

The University of St. Thomas offers swimming pool, gymnasium, weight lifting room, tennis, basketball and racquetball courts, all the year golf, tennis, soccer, cycling and other sports. Weekend trips to San Antonio, Dallas, New Orleans and Mexico, all very accessible. To know more of the Old West, the excursions of the students includes rodeos and the opportunity to ride.
