Virginia Commonwealth University
Description
Founded on 1938, the Virginia Commonwealth University
is a public university with Ph.D. programs and extensive
research, more than 24.000 students and different academic
programs. The students can choose to study engineering,
medicine, natural sciences, businesses, humanities, arts,
education and social work.
The educational body of the VCU has 1612 members, all
from the best American and international universities.
It is located in the historical and residential Fan District.

Academics
The university offers intensive English language instruction
-23 to 25 hours per week for the full time students of
the ELP. It is not necessary to have the TOEFL note to
take classes of the ELP. Eligible students of ELP can
take academic and ELP classes. The classes are small,
16 or less students. There are 9 levels of reading, writing,
comprehension, conversation and pronunciation of the English
language, from beginner to advanced. The special elective
courses are: TOEFL Preparation, Present Pronunciation
/ Accent Reduction, Conversation and Actual Events, Communication
and American Films, Advanced Commercial Writing, Exploration
of the American Culture, History of the United States
and Reading and Writing. Free access to the university
facilities include: Language learning Lab, writing Services,
Computers and tutoring.
Activities
Among the offered activities are social daily weekly and
monthly meetings, visits to the host family during the
weekends and holidays, one day tourism strolls or recreational
weekends activities. There are also special programs for
groups.
