Description
Since 1970 POLY has been teaching English as a second
language (ESL) to people of more than 30 countries whose
maternal language is not English. Irvine is one of the
safest cities of the United States. The location is ideal
since as much the mountains as the beaches are quite close.
The school is near the University of California in Irvine.
Lodging
POLY offers to stay with American families, or the student
can also choose to rent an apartment near the institute.
Academic
The ESL program offers six instruction levels. The intensive
program has 23 hours per week classes and the semi-intensive
program has 18 hours per week. The classes have few students
to assure a customized attention. Each course offers grammar,
conversation and other electives. The elective courses
include pronunciation, writing and vocabulary expansion,
American slang, conversation, preparation class for the
university, commercial English, American culture and present
events of the United States. They also offer preparation
for TOEFL, TOEIC and GMAT exams, and administer the TOEFL
and the TOEIC tests.
Activities
The students can enjoy the green environs, the perfect
weather, and the atmosphere of this university city with
many attractions in the outskirts, as Disneyland, Knott's
Berry Farm, Wild Rivers, Irvine Amphitheatre, California
Adventure, and Sea World.
