Johnson and Wales University
Description
Denver is an active and cosmopolitan city of more than
two million inhabitants, located in the Rocky Mountains
and with numerous cultural activities. Created in 1961,
ELS will show you a different lifestyle and it will help
you to improve your knowledge of the language and culture
of the United States. The Center is located in the beautiful
and historical campus of Johnson & Wales University,
in Park Hill.
Lodging
The options include: host family houses, student’s
residences and apartments. In many cases, the lodging
arrangements can be done before arriving to the United
States.
Academic
ELS offers two English courses: Intensive and Semi-Intensive.
The Intensive Program has 30 weekly lessons and up to
twelve levels - that go from beginner to advanced and
"masters” levels. Before the beginning of the
classes, the student takes a test to determine his level
an how much he /she can speak, understand and write in
English. There are also special programs, including TOEFL
preparation and personalized instruction.
The Semi-Intensive English course was designed for those
who want to make good use of the classes and also have
free time to explore the environs and practice English
outside the classroom. It has 20 weekly lessons, with
emphasis on the communication skills and the practice
of the everyday English, with flexible schedules for the
beginning of each session and twelve learning levels,
from beginners to "masters".
Activities
In winter, ski or snowboard can be practiced in the dust
snow of Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge and many other first
level ski centers. In the summer, the students can choose
between a list of activities that can be done in the Rocky
Mountains, such as long walks, cycling, horse riding,
camping, mountain climbing and rafting. The city has professional
sports teams, art galleries, museums, artistic exhibitions,
commercial parks and centers. The student can enjoy weekend
visits to Santa Fe, Cheyenne, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone
and numerous national parks in the Rocky Mountains region.
