Dominican University
Description
Created in 1961, ELS will show you a different lifestyle
and it will help you to improve your knowledge of the
language and culture of the United States. Located in
12 hectares of a beautiful Chicago residential district,
the Dominican University is only 20 minutes away from
the city downtown. It is among the 15 regional main universities
of the middle west and offers a very good Masters in Business
Administration Program (MBA).
Lodging
The lodging options are: host family houses, student’s
residences and apartments. In many cases, the lodging
arrangements can be done before arriving to the United
States.
Academic
ELS offers two English courses: Intensive and Semi-Intensive.
The Intensive Program has 30 weekly lessons and up to
twelve levels - that go from beginner to advanced and
"masters” levels. Before the beginning of the
classes, the student takes a test to determine his level
an how much he /she can speak, understand and write in
English. There are also special programs, including TOEFL
preparation and personalized instruction.
The Semi-Intensive English course was designed for those
who want to make good use of the classes and also have
free time to explore the environs and practice English
outside the classroom. It has 20 weekly lessons, with
emphasis on the communication skills and the practice
of the everyday English, with flexible schedules for the
beginning of each session and twelve learning levels,
from beginners to "masters".
Activities
In the campus, the student will enjoy concerts, theater
plays, films and a complete Students Center with a bookstore,
an indoors athletics track, racquetball fields, physical
preparation center and swimming pool. Chicago has an attractive
nightlife, with blues, jazz and comedy clubs, walk through
the "Magnificent Mile" in the Chicago downtown,
a group of international architecture, elegant stores
and excellent restaurants. Also the 35 kilometers of coast
throughout the Michigan lake offer swimming, sailing and
visits to the Navy Pier complex.
