English Language Institute
Description
Houston, an exciting and cosmopolitan city, is well-known
by its oil and aerospace industries. It is near the tourist
center of Galveston in the Gulf of Mexico and very close
to the NASA facilities. The University is located in the
flourishing business center of Houston.
Lodging
The University has a host family program, as well as dorms
outside the campus with transport for the students to
the UHD, or apartments at reasonable prices easily available
in Houston.
Academic
The English Language Institute (ELI), in the University
of Houston-Downtown (UHD), offers an intensive English
program designed to prepare foreign students to carry
out their studies in the United States or to acquire skills
with the English language for their careers. The intensive
Program is developed with 20 hours per week classes, and
20 hours per week of free use of the lab. It has 7 levels,
and there is an examination to determine the initial level
of the students.
Activities
Among the activities proposed by the University are study
trips and parties, films projection, groups projects,
university clubs and sports events, and tourist visits
by the city.
