Intensive English Program
Description
Houston is the fourth biggest city of the United States.
It is located near the Gulf of Mexico, reason why it enjoys
a warm weather. It is a cosmopolitan city, proud of its
museums, opera house, festivals, theaters, concerts, sport
events, restaurants, the NASA Johnson Space Center and
more attractions. The Rice University is a small private
university recognized by its academic excellence and the
teaching staff, post-graduated and students, located in
a beautiful museums district in the center of Houston
and adjacent to the medical Center.
Lodging
The lodging is responsibility of the students. In the
neighborhoods of the University it is possible to find
easily lodging at reasonable fares.
Academics
The Intensive English Program of Rice is open for those
to which the English is not its maternal language and
have a true interest to improve its skills in this language.
The classes have an average of ten students and six essential
levels. The students develop the ability to speak English
for general, academic or professional aims. Levels 1 to
4 includes practical vocabulary, essential guidelines
of the basic language and mechanisms to read, write, understand
and speak. The ability to talk is developed in an interactive
atmosphere. The students continue developing their fluidity
and precision capacity in the basic areas of the language
in levels 5 to 6. The advanced level is for those students
who have arrived beyond the program of the six essential
levels. This level offers a course of special subjects
that focuses in diverse areas of interest. Students can
repeat this level, every time with a different study plan.
Activities
The students can enjoy social activities and events such
as picnics, fan shows, rodeos, volleyball and baseball
games.
